At Rhode Street School we pride ourselves on teaching our students to promote healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. We promote healthy eating through healthy cooking. We grow our food, we cook our food and we love to eat our food. Each child from 5 -14 years old learns to work in a commercial kitchen environment. Each student learns time management, hygiene and food handling skills to help them through life and at home. Our students learn to love and appreciate where food comes from. The student council at Rhode Streeet School has also approached local dairy owners and asked them to refrain from selling sweet and sugary drinks to students in uniform. Three local dairies agreed and principal, Shane Ngatai, has noted visible reductions in the consumption of lollies and sugar-sweetened beverages on site.
