A year ago a group of dentists, dental therapists and health promoters formed a group called ‘Choose Water Hawke’s Bay’. The group meet to discuss the issues around the consumption of sugar sweetened beverages in our schools. A strategic plan was implemented and the first action would be to put a presentation together for Board of Trustee’s about the impact of a high SSB diet on the oral health of our tamariki and rangatahi. Local Dentist;s here in Hawkes Bay’s see the issue first hand and so do our hospital dental team at the HBDHB. It was time to take action!
Our overall objective is to have SSB free schools in Hawke’s Bay. The group are currently working with schools, principals and Board of Trustees about introducing a SSB free policy.
